TCT Shenzhen 2026  Addireen Reviews Five Years of Green Laser Development for Metal AM

At TCT Shenzhen, held from 14 to 16 October 2026, Addireen reviewed five years of green laser development for metal additive manufacturing. The presentation returned to the 500 W green laser first shown five years earlier and examined what updates have changed in the printing process.

The program began at Addireen's parent company, GongDa Laser, with  500 W QCW single-mode green laser. Continuous-wave versions followed. Addireen integrated the technology into metal AM systems and tested it through equipment development, long builds and batch production.

Copper absorbs 532 nm green light more readily than the 1064 nm near-infrared wavelength commonly used in laser powder bed fusion. At room temperature, the absorption of pure copper at 532 nm is approximately eight times higher than at 1064 nm. This allows a larger share of the incident laser energy to couple into the material and can support more controlled energy input and melt-pool behavior. The effect is particularly relevant to dense copper parts, thin walls and other fine features.

Absorption alone does not determine build quality. Laser output, beam delivery, scanning, recoating, chamber conditions and process parameters must remain coordinated. Addireen therefore evaluates the light source as part of the printing system, using operating records and inspection results from finished parts.

500 W Single-Mode Continuous-Wave Green Laser

Five Years Measured in Production Data

RMS Power Fluctuation Below 0.2 Percent

Measured RMS power fluctuation for the 500 W continuous-wave green fiber laser is below 0.2%. For metal AM, stable output helps keep the energy delivered to each layer within the intended process window. It does not determine part quality on its own, but it reduces one source of variation during long jobs.

Addireen checks this figure against build records rather than relying on a short power test alone. A production run lasting tens or hundreds of hours exposes the laser to the thermal and optical conditions of the machine, which can reveal behavior that a short bench measurement will not show.

More Than 25,000 Hours on One Unit

One 500 W green laser has accumulated more than 25,000 operating hours. The record provides field evidence for reliability assessment and gives the engineering team a basis for maintenance planning and later design changes.

For Addireen, service life matters because the laser is part of a production machine. Unplanned changes in output can affect build continuity, maintenance intervals and operating cost, particularly when a copper build runs for several days.

An Installed Base of More Than 1,000 Lasers

More than 1,000 units of the 500 W laser platform have been installed. Moving from prototype quantities to this scale adds another level of validation: individual lasers must be manufactured consistently and integrated with different equipment platforms.

Operating feedback from multiple systems and application sites has been used in later product updates. Addireen also uses this experience when matching the laser with its optical path, controls and process settings.

Pure Copper Builds Exceeding 300 Hours

The 500 W green laser has supported representative pure-copper builds lasting more than 300 hours. Under the recorded process conditions, the printed parts reached relative density of up to 99.9%.

A build of this length tests the complete system. The laser, optical path, motion system, recoating process and chamber environment must remain coordinated throughout the job. This is particularly relevant to pure-copper heat sinks, liquid cold plates and copper-alloy heat exchangers containing internal channels, thin walls or closely spaced features.

Production Results from Copper Components

Under the stated process and test conditions, finished parts reached relative density of up to 99.9% and electrical conductivity of up to 101% IACS.

These figures are results from defined builds, not general specifications for every copper part. Geometry, powder condition, build layout, layer thickness, process parameters and inspection methods all affect the outcome. Addireen sets the manufacturing route and acceptance criteria for each project.

The production data connects light-source development with the parts that leave the machine. It also shows why Addireen assesses the laser together with process control, machine stability and final inspection when preparing a copper component for repeat production.

Development Beyond 500 W

The laser program has progressed from 500 W to a 4,000 W near-single-mode continuous-wave green laser. Raising the output to this level requires work across beam quality, frequency conversion, thermal management, optical-component durability and system design.

Higher laser power does not automatically produce a faster or better metal AM process. The machine, optical system and process parameters must first be developed and validated for the intended material and part.

From Laser Development to Addireen Production

These records show how laser updates have been carried into Addireen's equipment and production processes. Further work will treat the laser, optics, machine controls and material process as one system, with a continued focus on the efficiency, stability and repeatability of manufacturing copper and other highly reflective metals. Beyond metal AM, the broader laser program is also being extended into precision welding and semiconductor packaging.
